Planning a Cruise Holiday

The planning to take a public holidays aboard a ship? Ask yourself some of the answers to many questions below, maybe that will help you plan your perfect vacation.

The first question you need to ask, who is coming together. Or one of the most romantic holiday is open to family and friends. Cruise’s children and to use it, if you are a wonderful mix, but did not find caregivers and activities for children of all ages are 24 to the organization. This allows them a fantastic time and departure time, however, preferred to spend free.

To determine how your budget is needed. Historically, the cruise is not cheap alternative, however, mean that soon, a lot of competition around, and now is probably the ideal time to get real value for money.

Remember that there is greater choice and the most expensive rooms and a separate lounge inside the intestines through the ship’s (sealed or phobia of the ocean suffer from diseases not good). If you ride a wheelchair access, you should check to the company. Some of the very narrow issue, making many statements, many disabled people.

Cruise around the north of the northern hemisphere winter is getting more popular, but not practical; It’s too cold. And do a very, very cold, cold Mediterranean sun. So if you want to guarantee it moves toward the region; usually it is Caribbean, Mexico, where Cruise is a way of life.

If you decide to stop using this right and you need a holiday cruise. Based on the beach, significantly higher levels of increasingly demanding better name when the ship docked ferry people on the beach and the sea. For most of the trip will include all cruiselines, physically demanding and a few other Thai your mind!

Many of the professional cruise lines several times during the year. They invite writers, musicians, celebrities or famous people are just boarding, a demonstration and they were probably used for inspiration along the way, or buy their books! These are some of the cruise stops and you are already a handful of never designed to provide all the necessary during in-flight; water like Disneyland!

Many people continue to dress for dinner and there are many ships have at least one formal dinner is still a long dress or dinner suit will require. These young people have the same attractions and businesses are no longer subject to too many people consider this to the people. Certainly something worth thinking about.

The Captain's Top Tips for booking your Cruise Holiday

  • Choose your cruise wisely

The first step in planning your cruise is to decide which of the types of Cruise Ships you want to set sail on. Big ship, small ship; warm water, glaciers; four nights or four months, it's important that you do your research. What countries do you want to visit? How long do you want to be away? What facilities are important for you to have on your ship?

Most large ships run kids clubs and activity programs all year round, but double-check first. Obtain a program guide and let the kids rank the fun before you hop aboard.

  • Cabin Selection

If going on a large cruise ship, devote some time to choosing the right cabin. Things to consider: beds (singles or double), room to move, bathing facilities, position, to have a balcony or not and, of course, price. If you can afford it, we recommend upgrading from an inside room to an outside room with a view to the ocean, on one of the higher decks.

  • Where should you book?

When you plan and book any sort of holiday, and in particular a cruise holiday, it helps to have all the advice you can get. There are so many choices out there today that it can get a little confusing. A good travel consultant with personal experience of a number of cruise ships can be invaluable. Ask for help with cabin selection, dining options and travel insurance.

  • Shop early... or shop late

Cruise lines like to start filling the choicest rooms as much as a year in advance and generally offer incentives for early bookings. We recommend you book early so that you are assured of the cabin type and cruise dates that you want, otherwise you may miss out. On that note - consider booking an outside cabin with balcony... the extra expense is well worth it!

However, if you are the kind of person who likes to make last-minute travel plans, prices sometimes drop as the sailing date approaches and cruise lines get anxious about filling cabins, so check with your consultant. However, this is not guaranteed - if you are sure you want to cruise, then don't hesitate to book well in advance.

  • Know peak and non-peak times

The rule of thumb for travel in general applies to cruising as well: If the kids aren't in school, demand and therefore prices, will likely be at their highest.

If school isn't an issue for you and your travelling companions, consider travelling in the shoulder seasons, when the weather is still good but the crowds have dispersed. Ask your Flight Centre consultant for the specific shoulder seasons for your cruise destination.

If you plan to take the kids it's important to book early to avoid disappointment. All ships are capacity controlled as far as children go. They have a specified number of 0-3 years, 4-9 years and over 9 years that they will allow per cruise. Reservations will be denied if capacity is reached for a particular age group.

On the other hand, if you're taking a holiday to escape the family and enjoy a romantic escape, then ask your Flight Centre consultant about child-free ships.

  • Ask about special deals

If you're travelling with a group of people, quite often there are substantial savings to be made if you book as a group. Same goes for families - many cruise companies will offer children's discounts.

As mentioned earlier, making your booking in advance can also snag you potential savings. Often, if you book at least six months in advance, you can receive a large percentage discount off the cost of your cruise.

  • Elevator or not?

If planning on a River Cruise, be sure to ask your consultant if the ship has elevators between decks as only some of the newest built ships do. All others require you to use stairs around the ship.

Finally, if you've sailed a particular cruise line before, mention it to your Flight Centre consultant, because there may even be a deal for repeat customers.

Bahama Cruises For Spring Break 2009

Many college spring break students have never been on a spring break cruise. They have jumped in their cars and headed for Florida or one of the many beach areas on the east and west coast of the United States, but never thought of cruising. So how does the first timer go about finding the best Bahama cruise for spring break 2009? First lets talk about the length of time you want to be on vacation. Do you want a spring break trip that will last the entire week or just the weekend? This will drop a few cruise lines off the list. Several cruise lines only have weekend cruises to the Bahamas, others only have seven-day cruises to the Bahamas. Second, you need to decide if you want an all inclusive spring break package or a pay as you go spring break trip. Naturally, all inclusive spring break trips will be more expensive, but you may end up paying more if you purchase your own food, drinks, and activities on the ship. Now we have knocked a few more Bahama cruise packages off the list.

Third, try to decide on a cruise only, cruise and stay, or island tour package. Some Bahama packages involve nights at a hotel once you arrive at your spring break destination, others keep you on the cruise ship the entire time. Island tour packages may stay at one port the first day and move on to other islands over the next few days.

Bodrum Charter Cruises Tips On Choosing Your Cruise

Bodrum charter cruises offer an outstanding experience even if you only have a short time to spend. If you visit the town of Bodrum on Turkey's southern coast, you should try to visit some of the private coves along the Aegean shoreline. You'll enjoy this beautiful area most if you explore it on one of the Bodrum charter cruises. With its beautiful shoreline and all its nighttime activities, Bodrum has become a popular tourist destination. The natural beauty, lovely weather, and historical surroundings are features that attract many tourists. Choose Bodrum charter cruises and leave your everyday life behind. Although availability depends on when you reserve, Bodrum charter cruises offer many sailings to accommodate your budget. Typically measuring from 45 to 115 feet in length, gulets are sailing ships with double masts that hail from the southwestern coast of Turkey. Bodrum gulet cruises are valued because of the Old World atmosphere that the cruises exude. These Mediterranean boats are handmade, and when originally designed they were used by sponge divers.

Bodrum yacht cruises offer a more sophisticated and elegant way to sail. Gulet boats are not as large and offer fewer amenities. If you take Bodrum charter cruises via yacht, chances will be greater that you will find amenities like on board entertainment, spas and sophisticated dining. Air conditioning is highly recommended, especially at particular times during the year, and will be available on yachts. But all the rooms on either sailing vessel offer perfect ocean views, so no matter which one you choose you'll certainly be happy on that count.

Cruise Holiday Planning Tips Ideas and Guide

Are you planning a holiday of a lifetime aboard a ship? There are a number of questions to ask yourself and perhaps some of the answers below will help you to plan your perfect holiday. The first question you need to ask is who you're going to take with you. Is a romantic holiday or one that you want to open up to family and friends. It used to be the case that children and cruises didn't mix but you'll find ships that have wonderful carers and activities organised for children of all ages. This gives them a fantastic time and leaves you free to spend the time however you wish. You need to decide on your budget. Cruising is historically not a cheap alternative but, having said that, there is a lot of competition around and now is probably an ideal time to get real value for money. Remember that there is a big choice of cabin from the most expensive with balconies and a separate lounge through to the inner bowels of the ship (not good if you suffer from claustrophobia or sea sickness). If you're in a wheelchair you must check access with the company. Some of the doors are quite narrow and create a lot of problems for many disabled people.

Cruises around the north of the northern hemisphere are becoming more and more popular but aren't practical in the depths of winter; it's just too cold. Even the Mediterranean can be really quite dull and chilly so if you want sunshine you have to move towards the areas that will guarantee it; usually that's the Caribbean or Mexico where cruising is a way of life. If you are disabled you need to decide if cruising is the right holiday for you. Even the basics of getting ashore can demand quite a high level of athleticism when the ship has to anchor at sea and ferry people ashore. Although most cruiselines will include trips for everyone, again there are some that are physically demanding, whilst others tire your mind!

Alaska Cruise Tours

One of the most popular Alaska cruise tours is to take an expedition to fish for salmon. Salmon fishing is a highly rated activity in Alaska as there are so many salmon in the rivers. This flows from the terrain and the fast moving river system that suits the conditions that the fish thrive in.

If this will be your first time fishing trip in alaska you need to ensure that you have the right clothing for the conditions and the right fishing equipment to give you the best chance to catch your fish. A few points worth of illustration are: -

The weather conditions are variable so make sure you have clothing that will not restrict your fishing and also that you are able to add warm layers if conditions require this.

You can be in brilliant sunshine one moment and a torrential downpour the next. Ensure that you can add a waterproof exterior to your clothing quickly to keep dry. Once you are wet it is very hard to regain your body heat.

Check what equipment and bait will be provided on the trip. Unless you are taking your prized rod on the tour you do not want to add to your luggage if equipment can be provided. Turning up with no bait will limit your opportunities for success if the tour organiser does not have any available.

If this is your first attempt at salmon fishing you may be surprised to read that there are many different types of salmon that you could encounter on your Alaska cruise tours.

The worlds largest salmon is the King Salmon that are available all year around as they are not seasonal in their habits. These are enormous and can grow to forty pounds although the typical weight is twenty pounds. Apart from the size you can spot one of these through their green / blue back and spots. These fish can live up to seven years old and are a prize catch using a baited line pulled through the water to attract their attention.

The salmon that you most commonly know is the sockeye salmon. This is the one in the tins in the supermarket and fresh cuts have a deep red coloration.

Another variety you may catch is the Silver salmon. Naturally this weighs less that the King salmon but comes in at a respectable twelve pounds, enough for the novice fisherman. These live in the smaller less rapid streams and are seasonal having a spawning calendar from July to November.

Whether you are a novice or an experienced fisherman a fishing expedition on your Alaska cruise tours will have a lot to offer you. The fish are plentiful and large, the landscape is breathtaking and the tour guides are knowledgeable. If you are a novice make sure you get on a tour for your level of experience so that the crew help you to get the most out of your day.

Alaska Cruise Holidays

Alaska cruise holidays can be a great vacation for all the family. Parent, child, grandparent or a family group with something special to celebrate you will find that a holiday afloat in such a spectacular setting offers something special. You should certainly come back home refreshed and with a different perspective on life.

All the major cruise lines offer cruise holidays in Alaska and its waters. There are over ten with the main ones, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Norwegian, Princess and Holland America Line having packages to suit all members of the family and at a range of prices so that you can select the type and cost of holiday cruise to meet your needs.

Some Alaska cruise holidays complete a round trip, departing from and arriving at the same port. These cruises tend to be of one-week duration and, because of the more limited itinerary, tend to be easier on the pocket. The main departure ports are Vancouver in Canada and Seattle in the United States.

More extended cruise holidays are one way affairs with the return travel completed by rail or by airplane. As these do not return to the port of origin they cover more ground and tend to sail south from Anchorage or go north from Vancouver. The extended travel period allows the inclusion of more sightseeing with the opportunity to absorb the spectacular mountain views and marvel at the majestic glaciers.

If life at sea is not totally to your liking you can also select a cruse liner holiday which incorporates expeditions on land with land based tours. In this way not only will you be able to study the rugged coastline from the ship but also go into the Alaskan National Parks and see the wildlife in its natural habitat.

One decision you will need to make concerns the location of your cabin, inside or ocean view. This will impact upon what you can see and certainly have implications for the price. Supplements can be charged for the privilege of having a balcony or deluxe suite. You will need to assess whether these add ons are worth it and within your budget. How long will you stay within your cabin and for how long do you hope to be involved in some outdoor activity.

The date of your cruise will have implications for the final price that you pay and perhaps how enjoyable your holiday is. Are you comfortable in cold conditions or do you need more warmth. The Alaskan winter is harsh and the summer months bring warmer temperatures with much longer days. For this reason the peak season is in the summer between May and September.

An Alaska cruise holiday can cater for a wide range of occasions and deliver a memorable experience. The holiday of a lifetime, a special moment, or a pre retirement milestone are all well served by this type of holiday.

Cruise And Stay Holidays

There are plenty of fun activities to keep you entertained while touring the seas on a cruise ship. The bigger cruise ships can have plenty of things to offer depending on the size of the ship. One of the most popular things that people tend to indulge in is sun bathing. There is nothing better then catching some rays whilst touring the seas of the world topping up your tan. If sunbathing isn’t your thing don’t worry, practically every cruise ship will have on board entertainment such as movies, performances and some even have live magicians which will certainly pass some time on during the later hours of the night.

If curiosity got the better of you why not explore the ship as some of them nowadays are ridiculously large and just waiting to be explored. Take a trip around the ship at the beginning of the cruise to find out what it has to offer and you know where to find what you’re looking for to make the most out of the cruise of a lifetime.

During the sunny hours of the day you can indulge in a day in or by the pool. Every cruise ship has an onboard swimming pool to keep you cool and also get some great exercise as swimming can work pretty much every muscle in the body and is a great way to get in shape so you can get that body you’ve always wanted to match that tan.

If you have kids that are getting restless check to see if the cruiser has an arcade as many do. Provide them with some money and they will be happy staying in there all day long – well until the money runs out but I’m sure it will most definitely pass more then a few hours so you can get that peace and quiet you need.

One of the best activities you can take up which everyone likes (especially the women) is shopping. Many cruisers have large shopping malls so you can get all the duty free you require but be sure to check your countries regulations on bringing the items back as you’re only allowed so much and it would be a waste if you went overboard. There’s nothing better then enjoying a nice meal with your family in some of the best cuisines the seas have to offer so be sure to check them out whilst your on board the cruise.

Why cruise and stay

You get the best of both worlds - a chance to visit many places from the comfort of a ‘floating hotel' one week, and to explore one destination in depth the other.

It makes the most of your holiday. Cruise-and-Stay is a particularly smart option if you're planning to cruise in a faraway region. Why go all that way without seeing and doing as much as you can?

It gives you the chance to combine lots of activity with plenty of time to relax - get busy sightseeing on your cruise, or whiz about on your land stay and crash out once you board the ship, it's your call.

A Cruise-and-Stay holiday, or pre/post tours, can all be booked through your chosen cruise line or tour operator, meaning there is no need to make independent arrangements.

Cruise And Stay

Cruise and Stay holidays are the perfect way to relax. You can sunbathe on a deck on a luxury liner or stay in a quality hotel. With a cruise and stay holiday you can combine the best of both worlds to make the most of your holiday.

Cruise and stay holidays are perfect for people who don't haven't been on a cruise before and are worries they may not like it. Cruise and stay holidays allow you to combine a cruise with a more traditional holiday.

Another great thing about a cruise and stay holiday is that you can create your own flexible holiday. Cruises generally visit more than one resort therefore you will get the opportunity to visit more places than you would have if you had stayed in a hotel.

Cruise and Stay: Best of Both Worlds

You can relax on board a luxury liner before you go exploring the world. Cruise and stay holidays allow you to sail the seven seas and explore far flung continents.

While meals are included with your cruise, you'll need to bring extra money so you can dine ashore.

Cruise and Stay Holidays

This website can be used to discover potential holiday destinations. As cruise and stay holidays are becoming a very popular choice now, the choice has increased. Using the internet its very easy to find the perfect cruise and stay holiday for you.

Planning a holiday

Many people take their main holiday in summer, and although some people choose a last-minute break, others plan their holiday months in advance.

The beginning of the year is a good time for people to start looking at holiday brochures. Tour operators (companies that organise holidays) as well as travel agents (the people that sell holidays) give lots of information about holiday destinations and types of holiday. Apart from the traditional two-week beach holiday, you can choose from a range of holidays: a cruise (holiday on a ship), an activity holiday (a holiday that involves walking, cycling, climbing or other sports), a city break (a weekend or a few days in a different city) and so on. A lot of people choose a package holiday, where flights and accommodation are included in the price. But many people prefer an independent holiday, where they make their own travel arrangements.

If you travel independently, you will need to book your flights or train tickets. Unless you have an onward destination, you will probably book a return journey. Then you will need to make a reservation at a hotel, or another place to stay, such as a campsite (if you are camping in a tent), or a caravan site (if you are staying in a caravan), or a B&B (a bed and breakfast).

For all types of foreign holidays, it is essential that you check you have all your travel documents. Make sure your passport hasn’t expired, and that you have a visa if necessary. If you are travelling to some countries, you also need to make sure that all your vaccinations (protection against illness) are up to date. For some countries you might need a vaccination against hepatitis, or yellow fever, for example.

As your departure date gets nearer, you can start to plan the details of your journey. Perhaps it will be a good idea to buy a guide book, or a phrase book, if you don’t speak much of the local language. Some people like to read up on (= get lots of background information) on where they are going, and find out about the places of interest and “must-see” sights. It’s also fun to make a packing list, so you don’t forget any vital clothes or toiletries.

It’s also a good idea to buy local currency in advance, if your flight gets in (= arrives) in the middle of the night, when no banks are open. Most airlines also advise you to take out (=get) travel insurance – just in case your flight is delayed or cancelled, or if you get ill and need to be repatriated (sent back to your country).

Don’t forget to make arrangements for your pets and your house while you’re away. Put your dog into kennels (a dog hotel), and leave a key with your neighbour – just in case! Hopefully your neighbour will keep an eye on your house while you’re on holiday! Finally, get to the airport with plenty of time to spare. Nowadays it can take much longer to get through security and onto the plane. Have a nice trip and send your neighbour a postcard!

Insider Cruising Tips

First time passengers have difficulty envisioning what their cruise holiday will be like. Here are a few insider cruise tips that will help make your cruise holiday experience more enjoyable.

  • On the Costa Web site you can reserve land excursions by the date issued by the system during the reservation process (Must be done at least 7 days before the departure date of the primary port of cruise, which may differ from the passenger's boarding port). Since most shore excursions fill up fast, registering online using the data (first and last name, date of birth) that were given at the time when you purchased your cruise, can help guarantee you can participate in the excursions you want.

Nile Cruises - An alternative way to see Egypt

Relaxing on a cruise ship sounds like a great way to see different Countries, but if the thought of sailing stareing at the sea is not your idea of fun, what about a Nile Cruise - taking a cruise on the river Nile, witnessing the magnificent scenery, and great way to see cities like Luxor and Aswan.

Nile Cruises - An alternative way to see Egypt

The Nile is accepted by most authorities as being the longest river on Earth, about 4,184 miles long - Nile cruises are popular because nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along the banks of the river.

It is important to book your cruise with a UK-based Nile Cruises specialist since a lot of the bad press about cruises in Egypt comes from poorly run local run cruise ships.

One UK-based company that I have come across is Cruise Holiday Nile, a specialist in putting together “custom-made” cruises that combine excellent Nile Cruise vessels with flights to suit your pocket and choice of departure airport.

I’m not the type of person to sit on the beach or fight over sun loungers next to the swimming pool, and whilst I want to relax, nothing excites me more than visiting the local attractions and sights. I’d love to visit the magical temples of Luxor and the Valley of The Kings, the burial place of The pharaohs, and I get the best of both worlds on a Nile cruise.

The company are part of the Coop Travel Trading Group, which means you are ABTA and ATOL protected – this is important for travellers in case you come into any problems whilst you are on your Nile Cruise.

Brazil Travel - Cruise down the Amazon

Cruise Holiday Travel in the Amazon, the world’s most famous river, is a typical dream. But the Amazon world may be rather different to that which you expect. You may end up disappointed. You should plan your Amazon trip correctly, and shape it to your style and to the time you have to enjoy the Amazon.

There are different ways of visiting the Amazon rainforest. If you are pressed for time, or if you think you would not like to live for four, five, six or more days in a beautiful and calm, but repetitive world of water and trees, then avoid a long river trip.

In that case, a quick flight to Manaus (a city in the very heart of the Amazon, 1,000 miles upstream from the river mouth) is preferable. Once there, you can model the tour to your tastes. You can enjoy several short local cruises, you can explore some rainforest treks, you can swim and fish, you can visit local people living in the forest (the caboclos), you can get a good grasp of what the rainforest and the river area and you can even play golf.

This option demands a stay of, say, 3 or 4 days minimum. It all depends on what you want. Another alternative when visiting the Amazon involves a longer tour on the river - typically a trip from Belem (at the mouth of the Amazon) to Manaus, or the inverse. This cruise can be made on a transatlantic cruiser, and includes a great range of cities and ports outside the Amazon. Tours of two weeks are very common. You just need to cost it, and to book the cruise early enough (there isn’t a regular transatlantic cruiser route to the Amazon, and so you should plan the cruise well in advance).

More adventurous travellers may prefer other kind of boats and travel for a long river cruise. There are, in Belem and Manaus, local tourist riverboats and regular river vessels (for local passengers and goods) making the trip between the two towns. These two kinds of riverboats the tourist and the regular ones - constitute the best way of experiencing the full mood and the immensity of the Amazon (and, in the case of travelling in a regular vessel, the best way to have contact with the real people, and feel their friendly mood, their way of facing the life).

But you should also ponder the possible downsides of these options. One of them is the uncertain duration of the trip: it can be four days, if the weather conditions and the currents and other factors are favourable, but it can also be extended for one, two or more days, which may clash with your travel plans, flights, etc.
